The Martyr’s Memorial is astonishing, and under no circumstances should it be destroyed.
The war itself was, like all wars, an outrage against civilization, but that does not reflect upon the inventiveness of this work of art.As a classical western musician, I am keenly aware that many of the greatest works of art in European history were commissioned by brutal dictators such as the Louis dynasty in France, and successive families of English monarchs, not to mention several Popes of dubious character. Again, these redoubtable associations should not reflect negatively upon the great works of art commissioned under those monarchs. Artists of every age are forced to deal with the powers that be and do their best to create under stressful and sometimes oppressive circumstances.
Thank you for sharing these amazing images with us.

Thanks a lot Artist Jonathan Baker..The Martyr’s Memorial is one of the greatest works in Baghdad, and around the world….Most Iraqis won’t forget that art work or even thinking of destroying it…However, some politicians thought about destroying it because of its history in the period of Saddam Hussein…In addition, this art work is an memorial work for Iraqi soldiers who died in Iraq-Iran War…
Through the support of Iraqi Artists, they stopped against politicians who want to destroy it…Art works are a part of each country’s culture, history and civilization..Destroying it can destroy one of the country’s important history and culture…
